“It’s Time to BeReal”—analyzing deceptive design on BeReal
Digital Wellbeing Workshop: Empowering girls through computing literacy


The After School Workshop is a participatory design research program aimed at empowering middle-school girls through digital citizenship and literacy.
The Digital Wellbeing Workshop is a participatory-design project that attempts to teach girls about the intersections of digital technology and developmentally relevant topics.
In my senior honors thesis, I am examining if the “Time to BeReal” feature on the social media app BeReal functions as an attention capture deceptive feature, or if it is essential to community building on the platform.
In my Human-Computer Interaction course, I was tasked with creating a high-fidelity prototype for a potential social media platform. The end product, Greatfully, imagined a timed-notification feature where users would be prompted to post things they are grateful for that day.
Lots of Love Jenny (2023), a print-focused mixed media piece, uses 54 pronto plate prints, all created from family photos from my personal archive. The arrangement of the prints cross chronological boundaries to allow the view to understand a family tree from a new perspective.
